The full name of F5G is the 5th-generation Fixed Network. F5G is the 5th-generation Fixed Network represented by technologies of 10G PON, Wi-Fi 6, 200G/400G, OSU-OTN, etc. In the era of F5G, physical fibers move towards the all-optical service network which includes two parts of all-optical access network and all-optical transport network. The all-optical access network provides individuals, families, enterprises and users in other scenarios with the best connection experience; the all-optical transport network constructs a foundation and expands it to service fields, and builds a solid foundation for the Industry digital upgrading by virtue of high-quality next-generation optical transport network connection.

In February 2020, European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) set up the F5G Industry Specification Group (ISG F5G) committed to researching the standards and application of F5G, and the intergenerational evolution and long-term development of fixed broadband network. ETSI has identified the vision of F5G as "fiber to everywhere" and indicated directions for industrial development. Meanwhile, ETSI has proposed to identify the 5th-generation Fixed Network from the three application scenarios of FFC (Full-fibre connection), eFBB (Enhanced fixed broadband) and GRE (Guaranteed reliable experience), bringing fibre to everywhere and everything
